Capabilities

- grouping views in project phases
- grouping of many views in a grouped form
- Hiding content types
- Grouping views by derpartment

At the selection of views in SharePoint, the different view types are displayed in a simple list format. But with a numerous number of views you can easily lose track of it.

Default SharePoint-view-selection menu

An optional structured description of the content types has been implemented for a better menu prompt. The default "View" menu of the ribbon menu "Browse" was replaced by a custom "View" menu.

This new menu generates a grouped view of view types instead of a simple view, as you can see in the screenshot. Depending on which point the user goes with the mouse pointer, another menu with the allocated views will pull down. Groupings are highlighted by a "fat tag" and empty groups are highlighted by a "grey tag"
Presentation of a grouped ?view?-menu

The grouping of the views can be changed in the list settings or document library. A new menu item "groupings of view types" will be displayed below the tab "General Information"
Link to Groupings on the settings menu

You will get to another settings page, where the user can make the grouping of the view types after clicking the "grouping of view types"-link.
Settings page of the view groupings

On the right side, the user can access to all the view types of a list and integrate them into the menu structure using drag & drop. Individual views can be used several times in the structure, but not twice in a single grouping point. The order of grouping points and views in a menu item can be completely changed by the user with the drag and drop functionality. An auxiliary line at the drag and drop movement indicates the exact destination. Further, a group membership can be realized be dragging a content type or group on an existing group.
Menu prompt on the settings page

You can remove one or more content types or group menus by pressing the key "Delete" (Del), with the button "Remove item (s)" on the ribbon menu or using the right mouse context dropdown menu.
Create a group

To create a new grouping point, the users has to press the button "Add New Group" on the ribbon- or context menu. This opens a small dialog where the name of the menu has to be entered. The menu item appears in the menu structure after the confirmation of the "Save" button.
Select a grouping followed by pressing the key "F2" or double click to rename a group. You can also use the button "rename group" in the context menu.
Rename groups

After saving the main dialogue, the settings will be applied to the SharePoint configuration database. These settings will readout again during the reload of the dialogue, so that the user can go on with the configuration.
Further, the grouped "view" menu can be enabled or disabled for each website by collection individually.
Feature

The menu prompt is designed to support the multilingual function of the SharePoint Server English and German are already supported languages, but these can be easily extended to more languages by the use of resource files.
The creation and renaming of groups has been implemented according to the multi-lingual approach, too. The menu structure will still retain at the use of a different display language, but the groups can be renamed language-specific. The default language will be the default language of the web site.
Feature

Additional
Another problem is that the default SharePoint "View"-menu won't be displayed, if a list or document view will be added to another web part. The grouped "view" menu ensures that in this case a "View" menu will be displayed.
